HLT45021 Certificate IV in Dental Assisting
The Certificate IV in Dental Assisting is an advanced qualification for dental assistants who are already working in, or seeking to progress within, a clinical dental environment.
This course focuses on developing advanced chairside assistance skills, greater clinical
responsibility, and a deeper understanding of dental practice systems. Students build capability in areas such as dental radiography, infection prevention and control oversight, oral health education, and professional communication to support high-quality patient care.
Training emphasises applied learning in a dental clinical setting, enabling students to consolidate skills, work with increased independence, and contribute more actively to clinical and practice outcomes.
Overview
This qualification reflects the role of dental assistants who provide an advanced level of clinical and procedural support to dental practitioners.
Graduates may support more complex dental procedures, assist with the implementation and monitoring of infection control systems, contribute to oral health promotion activities, and apply professional communication skills within a multidisciplinary dental team.
All skills must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian Standards, and relevant industry codes of practice.
Dental radiography activities associated with this qualification must only be undertaken by individuals who hold a radiation user licence issued by the relevant State or Territory regulatory authority

- HLT31812 Certificate III in Dental Assisting or
- HLT35015 Certificate III in Dental Assisting or
- HLT35021 Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent.

English requirements
International students are required to have a minimum of IELTS of 6.0 / PTE score of 52, or their equivalent.
